Federal Prosecution Service introduced in Islamabad

Federal Government after passing of Federal Prosecution Service Act, 2023 launched Prosecution service in Islamabad. The functions of the service is to institute and conduct criminal proceedings initiated
by the Islamabad Capital Territory police or a Federal agency.

The service opens position for Assistant District Public Plosecutor, a Deputy District Public Prosecutor, a District public prosecutor, an Assistant Prosecutor, General, a Deputy Prosecutor General and, an Additional Prosecutor General shall perform functions under the overall control and directions of the Federal Prosecutor General.

According to the Act, the Federal Prosecutor General shall be the head of the Service and is to be appointed by the Government.

By objecting to the reason, the parliamentarians state the reason that in the Islamabad Capital Territory, there is no dedicated prosecution service to represent the State in criminal cases before the Courts. This Bill seeks to establish an independent, effective, and efficient service for the prosecution of criminal cases. to ensure prosecutorial independence for better coordination between the prosecution and law enforcement agencies in the Islamabad Capital Territory.
