KARACHI — September 9, 2026: The Sindh Bar Council has announced that the legal community across Sindh will observe “Sindh Unity Day” on September 10, 2026, with a complete boycott of court work in protest against proposals concerning the division of Sindh into administrative units or the creation of new provinces.
The decision was announced in a resolution and press release issued by the Sindh Bar Council following an All Bar Representatives Conference held at the Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi, on September 5, 2026.
The conference was attended by representatives of district, taluka and High Court Bar Associations, along with members of the Sindh Bar Council. According to the resolution, the conference endorsed the unanimous resolution previously passed by the Sindh Bar Council Full House on August 13, 2026.
The representatives also reaffirmed Sindh’s historical role in the Pakistan Movement, particularly the resolution passed by the Sindh Legislative Assembly of British India on March 3, 1943, in favour of Pakistan.
The resolution highlighted Sindh’s historic traditions of Sufism, peaceful coexistence and cultural diversity, stating that people belonging to different ethnic and religious communities have lived together in Sindh for centuries.
The Bar representatives rejected any proposal for the division of Sindh into administrative units or new provinces, declaring the issue “not negotiable.” The conference further described recent statements by the Federal Interior Minister and the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) as mala fide and criticized the authorities over law-and-order and border-security issues.
The Sindh Bar Council and Bar Associations across the province have unanimously resolved to protest against what they termed such “mala fide plans.”
As part of the protest programme, the legal community will observe Sindh Unity Day on September 10, during which there will be a complete boycott of court work across Sindh.
The resolution further announced participation in an All Sindh Lawyers Convention, scheduled to be held initially on September 19, 2026, in Karachi, hosted by the Karachi Bar Association, followed by another convention on October 1, 2026, in Hyderabad, hosted by the Hyderabad Bar Association.
The Sindh Bar Council stated that the legal community would continue to stand united against any proposal seeking to divide Sindh or establish new provinces within the province.
