Karachi Law Students to Stage Protest Against Police Brutality Amid Ongoing Anti-Canal Movement

Karachi, April 26 – Law students in Karachi have announced a protest against what they describe as police brutality and targeted harassment by officials at Police Station (PS) Defense, following their active involvement in the anti-canal and anti-corporate farming movement.

In a strongly worded statement, the students condemned the recent actions of law enforcement, including the alleged torture, intimidation, and unjust FIRs registered against student activists. “This is a deliberate attempt to silence our voices and crush our democratic right to protest,” said one of the organizers.

The protesters are demanding the immediate cancellation of all FIRs against students and are calling for criminal charges and the termination of services of the police officers responsible for the abuse and unlawful treatment of peaceful demonstrators.

The movement is rooted in growing concerns over the construction of irrigation canals and the expansion of corporate farming projects, which activists argue displace local communities, harm the environment, and serve elite economic interests at the expense of the public.

Law students have called on fellow students, lawyers, human rights activists, and members of civil society to join them in solidarity. “We will not be silenced. Our cause is just, and our resistance will continue,” the statement read.
