FIR Lodged Against SHO After Lawyers March to PS Mominabad Over Brutal Torture of Waqar Baloch and Ex-MMC-KBA Tahir Mehmood

Karachi, April 26 – A wave of anger and protest has erupted across Karachi’s legal community following the brutal torture and illegal detention of Waqar Baloch and Tahir Mehmood, a former Member of the Managing Committee of the Karachi Bar Association (MMC-KBA), allegedly by officials of Police Station Mominabad.

The incident sparked immediate backlash, leading to a march by dozens of lawyers to the Mominabad Police Station in a powerful show of solidarity. Following the protest and mounting pressure from the legal fraternity, an FIR has been lodged against the Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Mominabad — a rare step that highlights the seriousness of the allegations.

According to eyewitnesses and lawyers present at the scene, both Baloch and Mehmood were unlawfully detained, physically assaulted, and subjected to degrading treatment while in custody. “What happened to them was not only illegal — it was a gross human rights violation,” said one senior lawyer who participated in the protest.

Legal and human rights communities have strongly condemned the actions of the police, calling them an abuse of power and a threat to the very foundation of the justice system. “When law enforcement turns rogue and targets legal professionals, it becomes a direct assault on democracy and rule of law,” said a spokesperson for the Karachi Bar.

The Karachi Bar Association is expected to release a formal statement soon and may initiate further legal and protest actions. Meanwhile, calls for the immediate suspension and arrest of the SHO, along with a transparent investigation, are growing louder.

This incident has reignited demands for broader police reform and accountability across Sindh, particularly in light of repeated reports of custodial violence and unchecked police power.
