Notification Issued for Appointment of New Supreme Court Judges

Islamabad, June 24, 2024 – In a significant development for Pakistan’s judiciary, Mr. Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, Mr. Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, and Mr. Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan have been appointed as judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The official notification, issued under Clause 1 of Article 177 of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, was sent to the President of Pakistan.

Mr. Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, who currently serves as the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, and Mr. Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, along with Mr. Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, a distinguished judge of the Lahore High Court, have been recognized for their remarkable progress and contributions in their respective High Courts.

The date for the oath-taking ceremony has not yet been announced. However, the elevation of these esteemed judges is seen as a move to strengthen the Supreme Court with their extensive experience and legal acumen.
