The courts of District and High Court of Sindh in Karachi are facing extreme load shedding, causing significant disruption to legal proceedings. The situation has become particularly dire in the District Courts, where rare backup facilities have turned the courthouse environment hazardous, especially due to the scorching summer heat.
Lawyers, litigants, and court staff in the District Courts are struggling to cope with the frequent power outages, which have made it challenging to maintain normal court operations. The lack of adequate backup generators has left many courtrooms without lights, fans, and essential electronic equipment, exacerbating the discomfort and delays.
In contrast, the High Courts, equipped with backup generator facilities, have managed to avoid the same level of chaos. Although still inconvenient, the power cuts in the High Courts are less disruptive, allowing for a more stable continuation of judicial activities.
One senior lawyer practicing in Karachi expressed concern: “The load shedding in District Courts is unbearable. The heat, combined with the lack of power, makes it almost impossible to focus on our cases. We urgently need better backup solutions to ensure that justice is not delayed.”
The legal community is calling for immediate intervention to address the power crisis and improve the infrastructure in District Courts to ensure a safer and more efficient working environment.
This ongoing issue highlights the urgent need for infrastructure improvements and reliable power solutions in Karachi’s judicial system to prevent further disruptions and ensure the smooth functioning of the courts.
