Madhya Pradesh High Court Terminates Services of Six Women Judges for Poor Performance

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has stood firm on its decision to terminate the services of six women district judges due to their unsatisfactory performance, despite scrutiny from the Supreme Court. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had urged the High Court to reconsider its decision, particularly highlighting concerns over the evaluation criteria, which allegedly included maternity and childcare leave in assessing performance. However, the High Court remained resolute in its stance, prompting one of the dismissed judges to file an impleadment application, arguing that the evaluation violated her fundamental rights. In response, the Supreme Court directed the High Court to reconsider its decision within three weeks, emphasizing the importance of institutional integrity over personal egos. The issue gained prominence when three of the terminated judges approached the Supreme Court, contending that their dismissal lacked due process and prematurely ended their careers. Meanwhile, senior advocate Abha Singh underscored the significance of the case, questioning the rationale behind the dismissal of these judges, particularly during the probation period. As the legal battle unfolds, the Supreme Court has scheduled further hearings for April 30, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing dispute.
