One of the most famous Political and Legal Activist SM Zafar has passed away

Senior Lawyer, human right activist, Politician, Author and Eminent jurist – Syed Muhammad Zafar, popularly known as SM Zafar has passed away at the age of 93.

In addition to being a well-known lawyer and human rights advocate in Pakistan, Zafar served as the country’s federal minister of law and justice from 1965 to 1969. He is also renowned as the father of Barrister Ali Zafar, a senior member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The seasoned jurist was born on December 6, 1930, in Burma, and he started practicing law in the 1950s after earning his law degree from University Law College.

He opened his own law firm in 1968 after leaving the government, and in 2014 he ceased to be an active lawyer.

His important legal achievements include the 1973 Constitution’s discussion and development, the acquittal of Pakistani scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, and his involvement in the creation of the 18th constitutional amendment.

Prior to declaring his resignation from politics in 2018, the seasoned attorney had also served as a senator for the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).

In addition to holding the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (2012), Zafar also won a number of other honours and gifts for his contributions to the nation.
