District and High Court Judges of Balochistan Complete Internationally Accredited Mediation Training Under EU-Funded Deliver Justice Project

ISLAMABAD: The concluding ceremony of the SIMC Mediators’ Accreditation Workshop and Skills Assessment Programme for Judges marked the successful completion of a major capacity-building initiative under the broader “Strengthening Justice and Security Sector Governance in Pakistan (Deliver Justice Project)”, funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA).

Conducted under the Letter of Agreement between UNDP and the Federal Judicial Academy, the programme was organised by the FJA in partnership with the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC), serving as the international training partner. This specialised workshop provided internationally accredited mediation training to District & Senior Civil Judges from Balochistan, equipping them with globally recognised skills to strengthen mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms within Pakistan’s justice sector. The initiative aligns with the vision of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan to institutionalise mediation as a core component of the justice delivery system.

The concluding ceremony featured addresses by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Advisor to the Board of Governors, FJA; Mr. Hayat Ali Shah, Director General of the Federal Judicial Academy; and Mr. Sim Siong Koon, SIMC Director – Strategic Partnerships. The distinguished speakers praised the commitment, active engagement, and professional excellence demonstrated by the participant judges throughout this rigorous and practice-oriented programme.

They expressed confidence that the knowledge, practical mediation techniques, and internationally benchmarked competencies acquired during the training would play a vital role in promoting a culture of mediation, reducing litigation burdens, and ensuring faster, amicable, and citizen-centric dispute resolution across Balochistan and Pakistan at large.

The ceremony was attended by the lead SIMC trainers, Mr. Loong Seng Onn, Mr. Cheng Sun Cheok Alvin, and Ms. Yap Pei Yin, whose expertise added significant value and global perspective to the training.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates and a reaffirmed commitment to further strengthening mediation practices, supporting judicial reforms, and enhancing access to justice through modern, efficient, and ADR-based mechanisms.
