The Hyderabad District Bar Association (HDBA) has issued notices demanding the immediate transfer of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Farrukh Lanjar after he maliciously lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against Advocate Ali Raza Bozdar. This action, coupled with SSP Lanjar’s subsequent alleged brutality towards the advocate, has caused widespread outrage among the legal community.
The HDBA, which has long fought for the Rule of Law and human rights, strongly condemns Dr. Lanjar’s conduct, accusing him of misusing his authority and engaging in criminal activities, including protecting land mafias, criminals, and drug cartels. The incident involving Advocate Bozdar is just one example of his alleged mistreatment of lawyers, with reports of SSP Lanjar displaying a pattern of abusive behavior toward the legal community.
In a formal statement, the HDBA raised concerns about the negative impact of SSP Lanjar’s actions on the administration of justice in Hyderabad. The association has demanded that law enforcement agencies, particularly the Inspector General of Sindh, conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the matter. It also called for SSP Lanjar’s immediate transfer from the district to restore confidence in the local administration and the justice system.
Masood Rasool Babar Memon, General Secretary of the Hyderabad District Bar Association, emphasized that SSP Lanjar’s actions have created an atmosphere of fear and injustice for lawyers in the region, undermining their ability to perform their duties and practice law freely.
The call for action has garnered strong support, particularly from the All Pakistan District and High Court Bar Associations (APDHCBA), which have vehemently condemned the false FIR filed against Advocate Bozdar by SSP Lanjar. These associations also expressed outrage over the subsequent physical abuse faced by the advocate.
In a joint statement, the APDHCBA condemned the unlawful attack on Advocate Bozdar and the misapplication of police power in lodging a baseless FIR. The association demanded an immediate investigation into the actions of Dr. Lanjar, stressing the need for a transparent and unbiased inquiry.
In addition to the local support, the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) has joined the call for action. During the 05th meeting of the 27th Executive Committee on February 21, 2025, the SCBAP extended full support to the Hyderabad lawyers, who have been protesting in response to the injustices of the local administration and police authorities.
Led by Acting Secretary Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan, the SCBAP expressed solidarity with the lawyers and demanded that any First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against them be withdrawn immediately. The association also reiterated its call for the transfer of SSP Lanjar and warned that any further high-handedness against lawyers would prompt strong, decisive action from the legal community.
In its resolution, the SCBAP made it clear that the demands of the Hyderabad lawyers are fair and just and must be implemented without delay. The association also emphasized that any further mistreatment of legal professionals would not be tolerated.
The ongoing issue has placed significant pressure on local authorities to act decisively. The reinstatement of Dr. Lanjar to his duties has raised questions about the impartiality of the investigation into the matter, with many in the legal community expressing concerns about a lack of accountability.
The Hyderabad District Bar Association, the All Pakistan District and High Court Bar Associations, and the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan have all joined forces in demanding a fair and transparent inquiry into the matter and the immediate transfer of SSP Dr. Farrukh Lanjar.
As the situation continues to unfold, the legal community in Hyderabad remains resolute in its demand for justice, calling for accountability and transparency to ensure that the integrity of the legal profession is upheld.
