In a surprise development, the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) elected Chaudhry Tahir Nasrullah Warraich as its new Vice Chairman in its 244th meeting held today at the Supreme Court Building in Islamabad. What’s notable about this election is that it was done without issuing a proper notification and waiting for the usual period, with the decision being made on the spot.
According to reports, Mr. Mansoor Usman Awan, Attorney-General for Pakistan and Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council, invited proposals for the election of the Vice Chairman. Mr. Farooq Hamid Naek proposed the name of Ch. Tahir Nasrullah Warraich from Lahore, which was seconded by Mr. Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon. With no other proposals, Warraich was declared elected unopposed as the Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council for the year 2025.
The Council also unanimously elected Mr. Muhammad Tariq Afridi from Peshawar as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council for the year 2025.
