Karachi, October 16, 2024– An emergent meeting of the Managing Committee of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) convened yesterday, chaired by Acting General Secretary Mr. Jahanzeb Mari and presided over by President Mr. Amir Nawaz Warraich. The meeting addressed serious allegations stemming from the “All Pakistan Lawyers Convention” held on October 15, 2024, at the City Courts parking area.
During the convention, Advocate Zahid Hussain Soomro, an elected member of the KBA’s Managing Committee for 2023-24, displayed behavior deemed contemptuous and disrespectful towards esteemed guests, particularly Advocate Ms. Rabbiya Bajwa. This conduct has been described as a violation of the dignity of the Bar and a breach of cultural values reflective of Sindh and the broader Indus Civilization.
In response to a formal complaint signed by 353 members of the KBA, the committee deliberated thoroughly before unanimously deciding to suspend Mr. Soomro’s membership and issue a Show Cause Notice against him.
The KBA has emphasized its commitment to upholding respect and dignity within the legal profession and is taking decisive steps to address this incident. Further actions will be determined following Mr. Soomro’s response to the notice.
