Advocacy is the art of representing his party, protecting his rights, and making an effort for his client. The lawyers, the law knowers, use their knowledge to contest the cases of the clients but in my humble opinion, a worthy advocate should follow some of the below guidelines, principles, and pathways for a straightforward future:
- First of all, he/she should honor this profession, by knowing the fact that he/she will be following the footsteps of the senior advocates, judges, and justices.
- He/she should be well aware of the history, facts, hard work, and sacrifices of the senior advocates, since the beginning.
- He/she should feel the pain of his/her client.
- He/she should respect the Court staff.
- He/she should come to Court in a proper uniform.
- He/she should be punctual.
- He/she should be fair with his/her client.
- He/she should not overcharge professional service charges.
- He/she should not disclose the facts disclosed to him/her by the client to anyone else. There should be a secrecy.
- The clients should not be disturbed at odd times.
- He/she honors the rule of law.
- He/she should be a good law researcher.
- He/she should keep the practice of good book reading.
- He/she should improve his/her legal drafting skills.
- He/she should avoid the cases which are based upon falsehood and which are for the welfare of the society.
- He/she should play his/her positive role to protect the legal rights of unheard people.
- He/she should also fight cases as Pro-bono.
- He/she should take an active part in the protests and should raise his/her voice for the rights of the people.
- Lastly, he/she should play his/her right in protecting the constitution of Pakistan, the honor of Prophet Muhammad pbuh, and the Holy Quran.
I conclude my thoughts with a vision that if advocates play a positive role then there will be peace and prosperity in a country.
