Karachi, April 27, 2026 — The All Pakistan Lawyers Convention, held at the New Bar Room of the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Karachi, unanimously passed a wide-ranging resolution addressing constitutional, judicial, environmental, and human rights concerns.
According to the resolution, the Convention rejected the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments, expressing strong opposition to proposed changes that, in its view, could undermine constitutional safeguards. The lawyers also rejected the recent amendments to Articles 200 and 209, which relate to the transfer and accountability of judges, calling them detrimental to judicial independence.
In a significant move, the Convention demanded that authorities disclose all details related to Corporate Farming lands, underscoring the need for transparency in land allotments and agricultural corporate ventures.
The gathering further urged the Government of Sindh to declare the Karoonjhar Hills a Protected Heritage Site and to withdraw its case pending before the Federal Constitutional Court concerning the said land, advocating for the preservation of cultural and environmental heritage.
On digital rights, the lawyers called for the complete withdrawal of the PECA law, citing its misuse and adverse impact on freedom of expression.
Additionally, the Convention resolved to form a Task Force on Human Rights to regulate issues relating to rights violations and to maintain oversight on the conduct of police and other law enforcement agencies.
The unanimous resolution reflects the legal community’s unified stance on key national issues, emphasizing constitutional protections, judicial independence, environmental preservation, and human rights.
