On Monday, Apex Court annulled a Lahore High Court (LHC) ruling that had earlier ruled that the fuel price adjustment (FPA) added to monthly energy bills was unlawful due to procedural reasons.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the supreme court declared the LHC’s decision to be “impractical both constitutionally and legally.”
According to the ruling, LHC is not the proper body to handle this complex subject; rather, it should be handled by the appeal tribunal of the National Electric Power Regulatory body (Nepra).
The petitioners were instructed by the three-member bench to appeal to the Nepra Appellate Tribunal within the following 10 days. The tribunal was instructed to move the hearing along quickly and make a ruling by the prescribed deadline.
