Islamabad: Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri has filed a petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, seeking leave to appeal against a Sindh High Court order that upheld the cancellation of his LLB degree by Karachi University.
The matter stems from a decision of Karachi University’s Unfair Means Committee on 17 August 2024, later confirmed by the Syndicate on 31 August 2024, which declared his 1992 law degree invalid. Justice Jahangiri had earlier challenged the decision through a constitutional petition before the Sindh High Court. However, on 25 September 2025, the High Court dismissed his plea.
In his appeal, Justice Jahangiri argues that the High Court erred in its decision by focusing only on the issue of maintainability, without first hearing his arguments or allowing him proper representation through counsel. He has requested the Supreme Court to set aside the High Court’s order and grant him relief.
The petition, filed through Advocate-on-Record Dr. Muhammad Usman Mirza, is now pending before the Supreme Court for hearing.
