Sindh Civil Courts Amendment: District Court Jurisdiction Now Unlimited, High Court Original Jurisdiction Annulled, Civil Cases Transferred to District Judges

In a significant legislative move, the Sindh Provincial Assembly has passed the *Sindh Civil Courts (Amendment) Act, 2025*, which revises the jurisdiction of civil matters in the province. Previously, the jurisdiction of the District Court in civil matters was limited to cases valued up to 6 crore and 50 lac rupees. However, under the new amendment, this limit has been completely lifted, granting District Judges the authority to hear civil suits and proceedings of any value.

Additionally, the amendment introduces a provision that will impact ongoing civil cases in the High Court of Sindh. All cases with a value up to 6 crore and 50 lac rupees, which were previously under the jurisdiction of the High Court, will now be reverted to the respective District Judges of the area for disposal. This change ensures that cases are transferred to lower courts in line with the updated jurisdictional framework.

The amendment also rescinds and annuls the original jurisdiction of the High Court of Sindh in civil matters, transferring all relevant suits and proceedings to the District Judges with immediate effect. The law is set to take precedence over any conflicting provisions in other laws or court rulings.

This overhaul in the jurisdictional structure aims to streamline the judicial process and reduce the burden on the High Court, allowing District Courts to handle a larger volume of civil cases.
