KARACHI: The Sindh Bar Council (SBC), led by Vice Chairman Kashif Hanif and Chairman Executive Committee Yasir Arfat Shar, has strongly condemned the tragic attack on a convoy in Mandori Charkhel, Lower Kurram (Parachinar), which claimed the lives of over 70 people and left hundreds injured.
In a strongly worded resolution, the SBC expressed deep sorrow over the killings and termed the incident a glaring failure of the Federal and Provincial Governments, as well as law enforcement agencies. The council highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation in Parachinar and adjacent areas over the past several years, criticizing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for its inability to maintain peace and ensure public safety.
The council described the incident as a national tragedy and demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing the government’s failure to protect innocent lives. The resolution further called for the formation of a commission under the supervision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court to investigate the attack and submit a detailed report.
The SBC expressed grave concern over the fact that the convoy, which consisted of hundreds of vehicles and was under the security of law enforcement agencies, was still targeted by terrorists. The absence of apprehensions or serious countermeasures reflected a lack of urgency and competence on the part of those responsible for the convoy’s protection, according to the council.
The council urged the Federal Government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to take immediate and stringent measures to eliminate terrorism and prevent further loss of innocent lives. It also emphasized the need for accountability, stating that the negligence of law enforcement agencies and government officials constituted a violation of the fundamental rights to life and liberty guaranteed under Article 9 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
The SBC demanded expedited investigations to identify and punish those responsible for the attack and requested that copies of the resolution be sent to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan, with the expectation that justice would be served for the victims.
In solidarity with the victims and their families, the Sindh Bar Council has called for a complete boycott of court proceedings across the province on Saturday, November 23, 2024, to condemn the tragic incident.
