Lahore High Court Takes Action on Harassment Against Anti-Terrorism Court Judge

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan has taken a decisive step following a complaint by the presiding judge of an anti-terrorism court in Sargodha. The judge alleged harassment by intelligence and law enforcement agencies.

The complaint, submitted by District & Sessions Judge Muhammad Abbas, detailed disturbing incidents, including an attempt by an alleged authority of ISI to meet him and subsequent acts of intimidation towards his family. Additionally, reports of damage to property and threats were mentioned, raising serious concerns about the safety and security of the judge and his relatives.

In response, Chief Justice Khan has converted the complaint into a contempt petition and issued a notice on it. He summoned Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar and other officials to appear before the court and address the allegations in person.

The chief justice’s prompt action underscores the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring the safety and independence of its members in the face of any form of intimidation or harassment. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, demonstrating a swift response to the grave concerns raised by the presiding judge.
