Sindh Government Appoints Retired Justice Nazar Akbar as Chairman of Executive Council for Citizen Police Liaison Committee

Karachi, January 25, 2024 – The Sindh Government has appointed Mr. Justice (Retired) Nazar Akbar as the Chairman of the Executive Council of the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) for a three-year term. The announcement, made by the provincial government, highlights Justice Nazar Akbar’s extensive legal career and his significant contributions to the judiciary.

Justice Nazar Akbar began his legal journey by enrolling as an advocate on January 18th, 1986. His early years in the legal profession were marked by dedicated practice in Karachi from January 1986 to May 1987. Subsequently, he served as a Civil Judge and First Class Magistrate from May 1987 to November 1988.

Enrolling as an Advocate of the High Court on July 23, 1989, Justice Nazar Akbar represented the Federal Government in various Constitutional Petitions and cases between 1989 and 1992. During this period, he worked alongside legal luminaries such as the late Dr. S. A. Wadood, Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan, and the late Mr. Hussain Adil Khatari, Standing Counsel for Pakistan.

His commitment to public service led him to the position of Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan, a role he held from February 27, 2009, to April 21, 2011. In recognition of his legal acumen and contributions to the field, Justice Nazar Akbar was elevated to the esteemed position of High Court Justice in 2013, serving with distinction until 2021.

The Sindh Government’s decision to entrust Justice Nazar Akbar with the Chairmanship of the CPLC’s Executive Council reflects their confidence in his ability to contribute to the improvement of citizen-police relations and overall public safety. With his wealth of legal experience, Justice Nazar Akbar is poised to play a pivotal role in the CPLC’s initiatives over the next three years.
