Since 2010 the Fate of Pakistan is in shambles. On the government side lack of preparation, incompetent bureaucrats, a fragile System of irrigation, undue political interference in different sectors and departments, and most priorly lack of skills and training of officials have engendered the menace of flooding and havoc.
A decade ago, heavy destruction caused by deluges had no impact on the government, rather pre-planning to secure the territories, to mitigate possible chances of heavy damages through flood they had occupied themselves in building a luxurious Swimming pool and in abroad travelling. No pragmatic steps in terms of Dams construction and renewal of barrages were taken by the government.
The competence and performance of bureaucrats also connote the Question mark. Administrators, officials, and deputy commissioners paid no heed to the drainage system, to repair and installment of barrages, or even the barriers which could aggravate the situation. Resultantly, the accumulation of rain into rivers and lakes in residential areas flooded and destroyed villages and underdeveloped areas, leaving many people homeless with uncalculated and incomputable materialistic loss.
Reportedly, the Agricultural and Development Departments are the Second number in political interference. Lucrative positions in the irrigation division extort 1.5 to 2 million per bribe involving from lower to higher staff including the Chief minister and irrigation minister.
It is this Lack of policies and integrated management that has purely damaged lands ranging from numerous villages at the cost of hundreds of lives.
That Army Chief Mr. Qamar Javed Bajwa in his visit to flood-affected areas including Dadu, Larkana, and Qambar shahdadkot expressed grief and added that not only rain but also riverine water has caused the heavy loss not only materially but for the sake of many villager’s life. Further, he stated that back in 2010 floods due to riverine water was manageable, but this flood of 2022 due to lack of preparation affected enormously.
However, the role of the Army in the rescue and rehabilitation of flood refugees had been outstanding, particularly in the current wave of the flood is estimable and praiseworthy.
In Conclusion to all, we see that no one but it is these departments and politicians who are expected to take precautionary measures while collecting a large sum in the name of Tax, that it must and should be an obligation to play an apparent role by contributing in every way possible from the position as low as clerk to as prestigious as officer or minister especially considering the country economical condition. That year after year if we stand on the same platform as before then it’s time to make a decision about your Future, to the new days.
