Ban Imposed on Arresting Accused Persons from Lahore High Court Premises

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has reiterated its directions prohibiting the arrest or apprehension of accused persons from within the premises of the court, particularly following the cancellation or rejection of bail.

In a letter dated October 6, 2026, addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, the Registrar of the Lahore High Court referred to earlier directions issued by the court in 2014, 2016 and 2021, under which police authorities were instructed not to apprehend or arrest any accused person within the court premises.

The Registrar stated that the competent authority has expressed serious concern and immense displeasure over non-compliance with the previous directions. The police authorities have consequently been directed to ensure strict and effective adherence to the instructions and to prevent the recurrence of any such incident within the Lahore High Court premises.
