ISLAMABAD, September 24, 2026: The National Judicial Automation Committee (NJAC), chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, reviewed the implementation strategy for e-filing of cases and the proposed “One Case, One Identity” initiative aimed at improving digital case management across Pakistan’s judicial system.
The meeting was attended by senior judges and judicial officials from the Supreme Court, Islamabad High Court, Lahore High Court, Sindh High Court, Peshawar High Court and Balochistan High Court. The Committee discussed proposed standard templates for e-filing and agreed on the need for a uniform digital filing process applicable across all provinces and the Islamabad Capital Territory. The Chief Justice informed members that e-filing would initially be introduced on a pilot basis for family cases in selected courts across the country.
The Committee also reviewed the “One Case, One Identity” initiative, under which each case would be assigned a unique identity throughout its judicial lifecycle. A preliminary draft, prepared after consultation with relevant stakeholders, was shared with the NJAC for review and refinement before being placed before the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee for final consideration. NJAC Chairman Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar directed members to examine the proposed e-filing template from legal and operational perspectives and submit suggestions within two weeks.
The meeting further reviewed a recently launched dashboard for real-time monitoring of judicial data. While the High Courts were reported to be participating in the initiative, concerns were raised over delays in receiving data from Prison Departments. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar directed the Secretary, Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, to take up the matter with the concerned authorities and streamline reporting to ensure the dashboard remains current.
The initiatives are part of broader efforts to standardise digital judicial processes, strengthen case identification and tracking, improve access to judicial data, and make court services more efficient and accessible.
