Lahore Bar Association Issues Strong Statement on Lawyer’s Arrest, Biometric System Dispute, and Court Conduct – Announces Protest Plan

The Lahore Bar Association has issued a formal press statement expressing serious concern over the arrest of a lawyer outside the court premises, calling it an unlawful and unacceptable act. According to the Association, the arrest was made without following legal procedure, prompting strong reaction from the bar community.

The statement further addressed growing complaints regarding the conduct of a senior judicial officer, noting that lawyers had repeatedly reported inappropriate and disrespectful treatment in the courtroom. The Association declared that such behavior was creating an unhealthy working environment and obstructing smooth court proceedings.

The Lahore Bar Association also raised objections to the new biometric attendance system introduced for lawyers, stating that it had not been implemented in accordance with proper SOPs. The bar leadership argued that the system was enforced without consultation and was causing unnecessary inconvenience to practitioners.

In response to these issues, the Association demanded immediate action from the Lahore High Court administration. A 72-hour deadline was announced, after which a city-wide protest would be initiated. The bar further stated that if the matters remained unresolved, lawyers across Punjab would be called to join a province-wide strike.

The Association concluded by emphasizing that it will not compromise on the dignity of the legal profession and will continue its protest strategy until all concerns—including the lawyer’s arrest, courtroom conduct, and biometric system—are satisfactorily addressed.
