Karachi Bar Association Elections Delayed Amid Pending Appeal

KARACHI: The elections for the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) have been postponed indefinitely following a legal challenge pending before the Pakistan Bar Council.

According to details, an appeal titled Mumtaz Khan Tanoli, Advocate vs. The Sindh Bar Council (Appeal No.24 of 2026) has been filed under Section 13(2) of the Legal Practitioner & Bar Councils Act, 1973. The appeal was initially scheduled for a hearing on March 13, 2026, before the Appeal Committee (Sindh) of the Pakistan Bar Council in Islamabad.

However, in a subsequent notification issued by the Pakistan Bar Council, the hearing has been officially postponed. The Secretary of the Pakistan Bar Council, Gulzar Ahmad, confirmed that the next date for the hearing will be communicated to the parties later.

As a direct result of the adjournment of the appeal, the electoral process for the Karachi Bar Association has been put on hold. Sources within the bar indicate that the election schedule cannot proceed until a final decision is rendered by the appellate committee.

The Sindh Bar Council has been directed to produce the complete record pertaining to the case. Failure to do so previously could have resulted in an ex-parte decision, though the postponement has temporarily eased that deadline.

Candidates and members of the Karachi Bar are now awaiting the new date of the hearing, which will determine the future timeline for the long-awaited elections.
