Karachi Bar Association Announces Full-Day Strike in Protest of Tragic Murder of Three-Year-Old

Karachi, October 11, 2024 The Karachi Bar Association (KBA) has declared a full-day strike on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in response to the brutal murder of three-year-old Amna, daughter of Advocate Abdul Basit Afridi, a former member of the KBA’s Managing Committee.

The decision was made by the Managing Committee of the KBA following the horrific discovery of Amna’s body in Qabail Colony, Gulberg, shortly after she was reported missing. According to reports, the child was found with marks on her neck, indicating strangulation, just minutes after she left home to accompany her siblings to a madrasa.

In a formal communication addressed to the Honorable District & Sessions Judge of Karachi, the KBA has requested the suspension of all judicial activities for the day in solidarity with the Afridi family during this time of profound grief.

“The Karachi Bar Association strongly condemns this heinous act and stands in complete solidarity with Mr. Abdul Basit and his family,” the statement read. The association has called for an immediate and thorough investigation by the Sindh Police to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Furthermore, the KBA urges the Sindh government to take decisive actions to enhance the safety and security of all citizens, particularly children, in the community.

As the investigation unfolds, the KBA remains committed to advocating for justice for little Amna, offering their deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to her grieving family.

The association has also expressed a desire for the authorities to expedite their efforts in apprehending those responsible for this tragic crime, emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable members of society.
