1. INTRODUCTION:
Crime is an illegal act, misconduct, criminal act, or such action which hurts or affects someone
mentally or physically stated as a crime.
In PAKISTAN the crime ratio is increasing every day in multiple ways For instance violation of
traffic rules, assault, money laundering, narcotics, street crimes, cyber crimes, violent crimes,
and rape.
There are multiple causes of the increase in crimes in Pakistan. Pakistan’s rule of law is
extremely weak. Corruption and impunity run rampant, and there is little public trust in either
the judicial or law enforcement systems. Moreover, criminal investigations lack adequate
funding.
2. What is a crime?
Crime is an intentional act that causes physical or psychological hurt to a property.
Crime can be either a misdemeanor or heinous.
3. CAUSES OF A CRIME
Numerous crimes are happening every day in Pakistan from the street level to the state level
some of which are under trial some pending and some overlooked it could be said that
ignorance of minor as well as major crimes is a cause of boost in crime ratio which is extremely
destructive for the citizens of Pakistan and upcoming generations also it will be very
problematic to control on crimes.
There are several causes of crimes some of which are discussed down below:
i. Economic factors:
- Pakistan is suffering from drastic economic challenges presently which is the
prominent cause of crime. - Downfall causes unemployment which leads to frustration and results in
committing crimes for the lower community to have an everyday bread and
butter. - Economic changes are one of the greatest causes of deprivation leading to
committing a crime to fulfill basic needs.
ii. Family structure / parental relations:
- Parental relation is also a very pictorial point for causes of crimes. There should
be a strong bonding between the children and parents to give proper guidance
about the management of social and personal life, youngsters somehow detract
themselves due to a lack of nurturing. - For illustration: getting low grades in school/ college, being unemployed,
misunderstandings between parents and child, lack of awareness, etc
iii. Unemployment:
- Pakistan is drastically suffering from unemployment projected to trend around
6.40 in 2023 and 8.50 in 2024 which is an alarming situation for the government
and can lead to committing a crime for survival.
iv. Matter of choice:
- William Glasser Institute. The choice theory states that all we do is
behave, that almost all behavior is chosen, and that we are driven by our
genes to satisfy five basic needs: survival, love and belonging, power,
freedom, and fun. People choose crime as a matter of choice for their
satisfaction and happiness sometimes in committing a crime they find
peace.
4. TYPES OF CRIME:
i. STREET CRIME:
- o street crime in Pakistan is one of the very cheapest crimes.
- o During the first three months of the year •2023, more than 21,000 cases
were reported - o unreported cases must be much higher
- o Robbers took the lives of as many as 34 people and injured 150 snatching
of cars, motorcycles, and mobile phones crossed the 20,000 mark. - o Karachi is a city that has given birth to quite a few seriously wild criminal
legends.
ii. CYBERCRIME:
- o Pakistan despite having a 36.5% internet penetration rate reported
around 100,00 cyber crime cases in 2021, Islamabad: FIA: Cyber Crime
Increases 83% in Pakistan. - o DRUGS TRAFFICKING: 40% of Afghan Drug Trafficking utilizes drug trade
routes passing from Pakistan. four main categories of drugs namely:
Cannabis, Opioids, Cocaine, and Synthetic Drugs. - o About 7 mi• About 7 million Pakistanis are involved in taking Drugs 4
million use Cannabis - o 2.7 million use Opioids.
iii. TERRORISM:
- o Pakistan recorded the second largest increase in terrorism-related deaths
worldwide in 2022, with the toll rising significantly to 643, a 120% rise
from the 292 deaths the previous year, a new report said Tuesday 14
March 2023.
iv. MONEY LAUNDERING:
o Between 2% and 5% of the world’s total GDP is lost to money laundering
each year in PAKISTAN.
v. VIOLENT CRIME:
o Murder, Rape, Gang rape, sexual abuse of a minor, kidnapping, armed
robbery, burglary, and carjacking
vi. ASSAULT:
o 3.07 per 100k rate in PAKISTAN for assault Pakistan is 91st number in
assault crimes in the world.
5. CRIME RATE IN PAKISTAN AND OTHER COUNTRIES:
✓ 1 Karachi 55.2%
✓ Lahore 36.8%
✓ Islamabad 31.3%
6. CONCLUSION:
Pakistani citizens face a lot of problems every day due to a lack of management justice
and security system in the field of crimes and uncertainties people should take care of
themselves as well as others. Pakistan’s government should take strong action against
criminals and punish them according to law and order for the betterment of society and
its environment.
