High Court of Sindh Announces Unlimited Jurisdiction for Senior Civil Judges and Revised Limits for Civil Judges in Karachi

Karachi, March 1, 2025

In a landmark legal reform, the High Court of Sindh at Karachi has issued a notification following the final assent of the Governor, implementing the unlimited jurisdiction for Senior Civil Judges and revising the pecuniary limits for Civil Judges in Karachi and across Sindh. The move comes after the passage of the Sindh Civil Courts (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Sindh Act No. VI of 2025), which amends the Sindh Civil Courts Ordinance, 1962.

The key revisions to the jurisdictional limits, as outlined in the new notification, are as follows:

  1. Senior Civil Judges in the province of Sindh, including Karachi: Unlimited Jurisdiction
  2. Civil Judges in the province of Sindh, including Karachi: PKR 15 Million

This change empowers Senior Civil Judges with unlimited jurisdiction, allowing them to hear civil suits of any monetary value, while Civil Judges will now have jurisdiction over civil cases up to PKR 15 million. The update is intended to enhance the capacity of district courts to handle a greater volume of cases, reducing the burden on higher courts and improving judicial efficiency.

The implementation of these revised limits is expected to speed up the resolution of civil disputes, providing litigants with quicker access to justice. This important reform reflects the ongoing efforts by the Sindh High Court to strengthen the legal system and ensure timely justice delivery.

The revised jurisdictional limits take effect immediately, marking a significant development in the judicial landscape of Karachi and Sindh.
