Justice Munib Akhtar Takes Oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Munib Akhtar, Senior Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, took oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on Monday, June 22, 2026.

 

The oath was administered by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui in a simple and dignified ceremony held at the Supreme Court Branch Registry, Karachi.

 

Justice Munib Akhtar will perform the duties of the Chief Justice of Pakistan during the period in which Hon’ble Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi, Chief Justice of Pakistan, remains abroad.

 

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court and the Federal Constitutional Court. The proceedings were conducted by the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Officers and staff of the Supreme Court were also present on the occasion.

 

The ceremony marked a significant constitutional and administrative development within the apex court, ensuring continuity in the functioning of the Supreme Court during the absence of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
