In a significant step towards modernizing legal education and strengthening professional capacity within the legal fraternity, the Chief Justice of Pakistan launched the E-Course for Law Professionals – 2026, a nationwide online training programme designed to bridge the longstanding gap between academic legal education and practical legal skills required in professional practice.
Developed by the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Legal Education of the Pakistan Bar Council, the programme forms part of the judiciary’s broader reform agenda aimed at improving the quality, accessibility, and responsiveness of Pakistan’s justice system through technological innovation and institutional capacity building.
The E-Course has been specifically designed for law graduates, apprentices, and young legal practitioners seeking to strengthen their practical understanding of the legal profession. The programme comprises ten modules spread over forty credit hours and is offered through a fully online, self-paced learning platform, enabling participants from across Pakistan to access professional legal training regardless of their geographical location.
According to the briefing, successful completion of the programme has been recognized as equivalent to one week of the mandatory Bar Vocational Course (BVC) requirement for apprentices. Representatives of various Bar Councils welcomed the initiative and proposed that it be considered a complete substitute for the existing two-week BVC requirement in the future.
The digital learning platform focuses on enhancing applied legal skills, professional competence, and ethical standards through a structured curriculum. By utilizing technology-enabled learning, the programme seeks to provide aspiring lawyers with flexible access to quality legal training while promoting continuous professional development within the legal community.
Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Justice of Pakistan emphasized the importance of equipping young lawyers with practical knowledge, professional skills, and ethical foundations necessary for effective participation in the justice system. He noted that technology-driven learning platforms can significantly expand access to legal education and create equal learning opportunities for legal professionals throughout the country.
The launch ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Federal Judicial Academy, representatives of the Pakistan Bar Council, Provincial Bar Councils, and members of the legal fraternity, reflecting a shared commitment between the Bench and the Bar to strengthen legal education and professional excellence in Pakistan.
