In numerous significant court cases, Akram Sheikh has intervened. He defended Mansoor Ijaz, a Pakistani-American who claimed that Hussain Haqqani, then-ambassador of Pakistan to the US, had submitted a memo to US authorities requesting American assistance in stopping the Pakistani military from interfering in political affairs. According to reports, Haqqani had drafted this document on Asif Ali Zardar’s recommendation, the former president of Pakistan.

Since the early 1990s, Akram Sheikh has defended Nawaz Sharif and his family in numerous criminal and constitutional lawsuits brought against them.

Akram Sheikh was successful in defending the Punjab government’s right to establish its own bank, Bank of Punjab, in 1988–1989 The federal government of Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif’s Punjab administration were at odds at the time.
