In response to the letter dated 25-03-2024 from six Hon’ble Judges of the Islamabad High Court addressing the Chairman and Members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) regarding alleged interference of agencies in judicial affairs, the Sindh Bar Council and the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Sukkur, jointly convened to determine the course of action.
Expressing profound concern over the written communication from the esteemed judges, both legal bodies emphasized the critical need to uphold the independence and integrity of Pakistan’s judicial system. To safeguard the principles enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan and ensure the protection of fundamental rights, they deemed a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations as not only justified but imperative.
Consequently, the Sindh Bar Council resolved to advocate for the formation of a Judicial Commission by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, comprising sitting judges, tasked with investigating the issues raised by the six Judges. This initiative, they asserted, would be instrumental in uncovering the truth and restoring trust in the judiciary.
Moreover, the Sindh Bar Council urged the Supreme Court to expedite the proceedings of Suo Moto case No. 01/2024, emphasizing the importance of swift action in addressing the matter.
The Council strongly denounced calls for the resignation of the Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, labeling such demands as counterproductive to the unity of the judiciary. Additionally, they condemned individual advocates who made similar demands, asserting that such actions were illegal and not representative of the broader legal community.
In conclusion, the Sindh Bar Council reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the integrity of Pakistan’s judicial institutions.
